Manila – The Intramuros Administration (IA), in partnership with Meralco and One Meralco Foundation, illuminates the historic Walled City with festive Christmas lights with the official launch on Thursday, 21 November 2024, of the Meralco Liwanag Park in Intramuros.
Inspired by the annual Liwanag Park at the Meralco main office in Pasig City, the Meralco Liwanag Park in Intramuros transforms Plaza Roma in front of The Manila Cathedral into a magical Christmas wonderland.
The historic square has been adorned with a stunning Christmas display, with pathways lined with stars and solar lamps. Major features include an arch of lights, a giant Christmas tree made up of electric meter covers, the iconic Meralco tranvia, and a giant parol.
First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos led the ceremonial lighting of the Intramuros Liwanag Park together with Manila Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna Pangan and Undersecretary Ferdinand Jumapao of the Department of Tourism. Intramuros Administrator Joan Padilla, Meralco Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Ferdinand Geluz, and One Meralco Foundation President Jeffrey Tarayao.
In her message, Administrator Joan Padilla of the Intramuros Administration said that in launching this Christmas attraction at the historic Plaza Roma “we not only pay homage to our ancestors and their enduring legacy, but we also offer hope to our fellow Filipinos especially those who have been affected by the recent typhoons.””
The Meralco Liwanag Park in Intramuros is also a testament to the commitment of Meralco and One Meralco Foundation to bring joy and light to communities.
The Meralco Liwanag Park in Intramuros is free and open to the public daily from 6PM – 11PM until 6 January 2025.
