The El Museo del Prado en Filipinas (The Prado Museum in the Philippines) traveling exhibit and The Book Stop Project PH was formally opened today, June 9, 2017 9:30 AM, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the Plaza Roma in Intramuros.
Leading the opening rites were the Administrator of Intramuros Atty. Guiller Asido, and the Ambassador of Spain to the Philippines H.E. Luis Calvo. Other guests who graced the occasion were: Esther de Frutos, Head of the Education Department of the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid; Guillermo Escribano from the Spanish Embassy; Carlos Madrid, Director of the Instituto Cervantes in Manila; Juan Pita, General Coordinator for AECID (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation) in the Philippines; William Ti, Principal Architect of WTA Architecture and Design Studio; H.E. The Ambassador Tony Villamayor, representing the City of Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada; Raymund Tan, Director for Administration of the Bureau of the Treasury; Fr. Arnold Sta. Maria, O.S.A., from the San Agustin Churh; and Edi Huang, representing Barangay 655.
The Museo del Prado en Filipinas traveling exhibit features 53 life-sized photographic print reproductions of masterpieces from the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, Spain, and includes works from the masters of the 12th to 19th Centuries, such as Fra Angelico, El Greco, Velasquez, Goya, and Rembrandt, among others. The project has toured around many important cities around the world and is now available for public viewing at the Plaza Roma in Intramuros. The installation will run until July 31, 2017.
The Book Stop Project PH, an advocacy of the WTA Architecture and Design Studio, is also a mobile, traveling installation, and will stay at Plaza Roma until July 23, 2017. The Book Stop is an outdoor pop-up library and book exchange where the public can enjoy reading, exchange books, and have interactions with other book lovers.
