Barrio San Luis under construction, 1980
This 1980 photo from the Archives of the Intramuros Administration shows Barrio San Luis (now Plaza San Luis) under construction with the first three houses, namely: Casa Manila, Casa Los Hidalgos, and Casa El Hogar.
Intramuros is the only place in the Philippines where the building of new structures is regulated by law, to preserve the Walled City as a monument to the Hispanic period in Philippine history. Barrio San Luis was envisioned to serve as a template for new property developments. The complex has been completed with nine houses reflecting the dominant architecture of the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. The other six houses in the complex are Casa Blanca, Casa Azul, Casa Urdaneta, and three other houses comprising Hotel Intramuros.
