In celebration of the World Tourism Week and as part of the overall revitalization efforts for the historic Walled City, the Intramuros Administration and Viva Manila organized last 23-24 September 2017 the Intramuros Open House. Iconic Intramuros landmarks Baluarte de San Diego, Casa Manila, and Fort Santiago were opened to the public for free, with a recorded 21,528 visitors who enjoyed the sites and activities. The breakdown are as follows: Fort Santiago: 12,718; Baluarte de San Diego: 4,337; and Casa Manila: 4,473. Tourists, families, and visitors alike were treated to two days of garden parties, bike tours, and bazaars. Other activities during the two-day funfair included: a botanical photo/art walk in the morning; bike tours, courtesy of Bambike Ecotours in the afternoon; and open concerts in the evening at the Baluarte de San Diego.
Aside from being one of the Open Platform satellite expositions leading up to the Manila Biennale in February 2018, with succeeding open houses scheduled on October 14-15, and November 18-19, the two-day celebration is also part of the overall activities leading up to the Regional Fairs, which is scheduled to be held in March 2018. A similar activity with the Design Center of the Philippines is also scheduled on October 14-22. Public updates on the specifics of these succeeding activities will be timely posted in due course.
