Overview
Liban sa Monumento ni Jose Rizal, ang Fort Santiago ang pinakaunang pinagdadalhan natin sa ating mga bisitang dayuhan, malaking dahilan nito ay si Rizal pa rin na nakulong sa pook na ito. Subalit liban kay Rizal, naikukuwento rin natin dito ang mga mapapait na tagpo ng ating pakikibaka para sa kalayaan mula sa panahon ng Himagsikan hanggang sa panahon ng mga Hapones. Minsan nang nilagdaan ni Pangulong Elpidio Quirino ang batas na nagtanghal dito bilang isang “National Shrine of Freedom.” Ang presentasyon ay hindi lamang titingnan ang mga datos ukol sa kasaysayan pag-unlad ng Fort Santiago, kundi isang paggalugad sa iba’t ibang mahalagang papel ng Fort Santiago sa Kasaysayang Pilipino at ang gamit ng pook na ito sa pagtuturo ng kasaysayan ng Pilipinas.

About the Speaker: Xiao Chua
Michael Charleston “Xiao” Briones Chua teaches History at De La Salle University Manila. He is a BA and MA history graduate and Ph.D. Anthropology candidate in UP Diliman. He is co-author of the book Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo (Anvil, 2014) and Bayani Biographies: Andres Bonifacio (Kahel Press, 2019). He has also published various refereed articles in reputable academic journals in the country.
He was an original bottomliner in the Bottomline with Boy Abunda from 2009-2012. Historical consultant of History with Lourd (TV5), teleseryes Katipunan and Ilustrado (GMA 7). The creator of Xiao Time television segment at PTV4 (2012-2017) which is now a Abante Sunday column (since 2017). He also writes a Saturday column for the Manila Times (since 2018).
He is one of the most active historians on Philippine television and a docent at Intramuros bringing students and tourists since 2005.
About the Intramuros Learning Sessions
The Intramuros Learning Sessions (ILS) is the educational webinar series of the Intramuros Administration (IA). The IA is an attached national government agency under the Department of Tourism.
Topics are interdisciplinary and cover themes related to Intramuros and Manila studies, Philippine studies, as well as cultural heritage studies. Pursuant to IA’s charter, the ILS aims to contribute to the strengthening of the Filipino’s national identity and sense of belonging and pride.
