Intramuros Learning Sessions episode no. 15
Heroes of World War II Series
Part 1: Escoda, Abad Santos, and Lim
In December 1991, the P1,000 peso bill was launched by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, with the images of 3 important, albeit not so well known people featured on the front part of the bill. The Pinoys, in usual comical style, jokingly referred to the 3 characters as “Tito, Vic, and Joey,” the equivalent of Larry, Moe, and Curly in Philippine showbiz. It was funny, yet at the same time it was not, for it shows the lack of knowledge of our fellow citizens on heroes who sacrificed everything in our struggle against the Japanese during the Second World War, the darkest three and a half years in Philippine history.
This episode is Part 1 of the series Heroes of World War II.
