Personnel and volunteers from the government and private sector in Manila joined forces last November 4, 2016 for the first of a series of general clean-up drive in Intramuros for November and December. Organized by the Intramuros Administration, and undertaken under the directive of Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo, the activity seeks to bring back the allure and splendid glory of the historic walled city of Intramuros, and is in line with the Department’s thrust to revive events and programs that will draw more local and foreign tourists to Intramuros while fostering unity and cooperation among the various Intramuros stakeholders.

The event kicked off at 8:00 in the morning at Plaza Roma and was participated by representatives of various private and non-governmental organizations, including the Manila Fire Department-Intramuros, Club Intramuros Golf Course, Friends of Imelda Marcos (FIRM), Rotary Club of Fort Santiago, Metro Manila Development Authority, Department of Public Works and Highways, Manila Department of Public Service, Lockheed Global Security Agency. Also represented and who contributed to the activity were the five barangays of Intramuros, and the schools Mapua Institute of Technology, Colegio de Santa Rosa, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Manila High School, Philippine Nautical and Technological College, and the Manila Times School of Journalism.

Harte Hanks Philippines, together with the Bureau of Immigration, National Press Club, Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Bureau of the Treasury, and Barangay 656 held another clean-up drive of the same nature last December 4 in preparation for the Grand Marian Procession on the same day. The next clean-up drive is scheduled on December 8, 2016, coinciding with the feast of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Intramuros.
