About the Speaker: Elisa R. Sarmiento-Flores
Judge Elisa R. Sarmiento-Flores is the Presiding Judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 71, Pasig City where she handles various criminal, civil, special proceedings, land registration, and special civil action cases. She is also the Acting Presiding Judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 69, Taguig City, a Family Court where she handles cases involving women and children either victims or children in conflict with the law.
Prior to her appointment in the judiciary, Judge Sarmiento-Flores was a Prosecutor of the Office of the City Prosecutor, Muntinlupa City, Department of Justice. For her consummate service as a prosecutor, she was awarded Outstanding Prosecutor of the Philippines in September 2009 by the Department of Justice. She also served as a Public Attorney in the cities of Makati and Muntinlupa. In both capacities, she was specially trained to handle cases involving women and children.
Aside from numerous local trainings, she had attended a number of international trainings in Thailand, China and in the United States of America, particularly the International Visitor’s Leadership Program (IVLP) on Women and Juvenile Justice, the Academic Criminal Justice Seminar and Model Law Workshop at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) and the 2018 Global Freedom Exchange: A Hilton and Vital Voices partnership leveraging leadership to end human trafficking, wherein she was the sole representative of the Philippines, joining 14 other women fellows who have been selected out of nearly 500 applicants from all around the world.
About the Intramuros Learning Sessions
The Intramuros Learning Sessions (ILS) is the educational webinar series of the Intramuros Administration (IA). The IA is an attached national government agency under the Department of Tourism.
Topics are interdisciplinary and cover themes related to Intramuros and Manila studies, Philippine studies, as well as cultural heritage studies. Pursuant to IA’s charter, the ILS aims to contribute to the strengthening of the Filipino’s national identity and sense of belonging and pride.
