Manila – Intramuros is poised to attract more tourist traffic with a new riverwalk connecting its key landmark Fort Santiago to the Pasig River Esplanade.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inaugurated on Thursday, 27 February 2025, Phase 3 of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli Project which features the 305-meter Fort Santiago Riverwalk.
This connection is expected to serve as a major draw for visitors, providing a scenic and convenient link between the historic citadel of Fort Santiago and the revitalized Pasig River Esplanade.
It provides a significant boost to the accessibility of Intramuros as visitors can already enter Fort Santiago through its Postigo Nuestra Señora de Soledad river gate, aside from the main entrance gate along Sta. Clara Street.
Visitors can also enjoy leisurely strolls along the route while taking in the stunning view of the Pasig River and the surrounding Manila cityscape.
“The Fort Santiago Riverwalk will make it easier for visitors to move between Fort Santiago and the Pasig River Esplanade, creating a more integrated and attractive experience for our visitors and encouraging them to explore Intramuros more,” said Atty. Joan Padilla, Intramuros Administrator.
The Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli project aims to revive the vitality of the historic Pasig River and transform it into a thriving hub for commerce, tourism, and connectivity. It is spearheaded by the Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development chaired by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.
