This webinar will discuss the Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s 400-year history, highlighting its importance as a Philippine national treasure, as well as the the milestones of the school and its alumni in six periods: 1620 -1700 – The founding fathers and their continuing legacies; 1700 -1826 – The rise of Church ministers, missionaries and martyrs; 1820-1872 – The fate of native secular priests and the awakening of a national identity; 1873-1920 – The road to Philippine revolution and independence; 1920-1970 – The task of nation building and defying the pervasive neo-colonial influence; and 1970-2020 – The Filipinization of Letran and the Philippine Dominican Province.

About the guest speaker: Francisco Liongson IV
Francisco R. Liongson IV is a Filipino author, banker, entrepreneur, and management consultant. He has an MBA from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business, an ABMP from the Asian Institute of Management, and a BS in Marketing from the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. He is author of LETRAN An Untold History, and in 2018 he received from the Colegio de San Juan de Letran the Letran Grandes Figuras Award.

The Intramuros Learning Sessions (ILS) is the educational webinar series of the Intramuros Administration (IA). The IA is an attached national government agency under the Department of Tourism.
Topics are interdisciplinary and cover themes related to Intramuros and Manila studies, Philippine studies, as well as cultural heritage studies. Pursuant to IA’s charter, the ILS aims to contribute to the strengthening of the Filipino’s national identity and sense of belonging and pride.
